Antique Aynsley c1883 Cobalt Gold Bachelor's Teapot Creamer Sugar Bowl Set RARE
Antique Aynsley c1883 Cobalt Gold Bachelor’s Breakfast 3 Piece Ornamental Tea Set – Teapot, Creamer & Sugar Bowl. A stunning and extremely rare ornate antique breakfast tea set made by John Aynsley and Sons in Longton, Staffordshire in England. Decorated with gold gilded handles and finials, gold encrusted leaves with little bright hanging blueberries on a dark cobalt blue background. The shape of the teapot and sugar bowl seem to resemble a pumpkin and the finials on the lids look like small branches. Aynsley has made pieces in this shape in more modern times but we cannot find one as old as this one with diamond registration marks and this pattern. This set is very unusual and absolutely gorgeous! The diamond registration marks on the bases were verified on through UK’s National Archives and all the pieces were registered in 1883 (see below for more detais). Creamer Rd 402950 registered on August 29th, 1883 Teapot and sugar bowl Rd 400176 registered on July 3rd, 1883. Approximate measurements: Teapot 5-5/8″ tall to top of lid finial, 7″ wide from handle to spout. Sugar bowl 5-1/4″ tall to top of lid finial, 5-1/2″ wide from handle to handle. Creamer 4-1/8″ tall, 4″ wide from handle to spout. Condition: Overall the condition is very impressive considering their age. One chip on the base footing of the creamer (see picture #10). The sugar bowl has one hairline that is mostly visible from the inside (see picture #9). The bowl is still very sturdy. Random small spots of gold loss mainly on the handles, finials and rims where most signs of use are usually first developed. Some light crazing noticed on the interior of the creamer, the teapot spout and bases by the diamond registration marks. Crazing in the interiors and the spout is very hard to see if not under bright light. No other noted cracks/hairlines or chips. The gold leaves show a nice aged patina. If there are any other minor flaws they are natural from the making. Normal signs of age to be expected. Pieces come as is and as found. This set is so delicate and ornate that we recommend for it to be used as a display set. We do our best to describe every flaw but please view all pictures and message us for additional photos if serious about purchasing.
