Special set not commonly found in its complete and original form – Beautiful Art Nouveau French Solid Silver Chatelaine with five attachments on an ornate holder with a finger loop. Set includes a retractable lipstick case, retractable chatelaine pencil, slide mirror, powder / pill / snuff box, and pocket knife with 4 extensions (scissors, two knives and a nail file tool). All on an ornate chain with finger loop. Dates to around the turn of the century, this was made by the firm of Charles Murat who began silversmithing in Paris in the mid to late 1800s. Very nice quality with sturdy hand feel, good weight and gold washed interiors. Antique piece from the Belle Epoque period that I acquired in France. The set measures 7 inches from the top of the finger loop to the bottom of the attachments. The mirror is 2 inches, pencil is 3 inches. Many hallmarks on this piece. All attachments have the French boar’s head mark for solid silver items with the maker’s marks for Murat. Please note that all my pieces are in estate condition. The blade on one of the pocket knife extensions is broken (the other knife, nail file and scissors are in fine condition). There is only a tiny bit of original pencil remains so that would need a replacement. There are some lipstick remnants in the bottom of the retractable lipstick holder visible when you use the button to extend it. No dings, dents or bends to the silver cases, it all seems still perfectly formed. Seems in better than most condition aside from the broken knife tip. Some nicks and scratches more noticeable in the smooth areas due to the mirrored finish in that area. A few areas of stubborn tarnish but has a beautiful patina in the background to make the high relief details really stand out. All over faint surface wear from use and polish over the years.
