Perry Gallery & Auctioneers. A Set of 12 Original Art Nouveau Color Lithograph by Eugène Grasset -Malherbe 1896. 7.9X6.3 inches (20x16cm). Good (B+ to A-) holes to hang the calendar. In 1894, Grasset was commissioned by the French department store La Belle Jardinière to create twelve original artworks to be used as a calendar. Grasset\’s delectable color wood engravings, depicting beautiful young women in seasonal costumes and gardens that change with the seasons, were issued with empty spaces for calendar dates in a fine art portfolio called Les Mois (The Months) by the Paris publisher G. De Malherbe in 1896. This set was made to be used as a calendar. The Collection of Israel Perry. In general, a COA will include the date of issue, time of creation, name of the artist or publisher, medium, dimensions, and any other relevant reference relating to the artwork or the artist. The certificate is signed by Dr. Israel Perry and contains contact information. Israel Perry is a full member of the International Vintage Poster Dealer Association (IVPDA) and is a standing member of the organization. The ratings described below represent generally accepted standards for assessing the condition of a poster. A’+’ or’-‘ may further explain the condition of a particular item. Posters may be found on linen or Japan paper backing, with an acid-free adhesive. A+ (Excellent): This is a perfect example of a poster rarely seen in such excellent condition. A to A- (Very Good): This is a poster that is in excellent condition. The colors are fresh, and there is no paper loss. It may have a slight blemish or tear, but this is very marginal and unnoticeable. A- indicates that there may be some slight dirt, fold, tear, or bubble or other minor restoration, but most unobtrusive. B to B+ (Good): This describes a poster in good condition. It may have a slight paper loss, but not in the image or in any crucial design area. It may have some restoration, but this is not immediately evident. The lines and colors are good, although paper may have yellowed (light stained). B+ designates a poster that is in very good condition. B to B- (Fair): This is one in fair condition. The latter determination may be caused by more substantial than normal light staining or one or two noticeable repairs. C+ and Below: This describes a poster in poor condition. The light staining may be more pronounced, the restoration, folds, or flaking are more readily visible, and possibly some paper loss has occurred. But for this, the poster is otherwise intact, the image is clear, and the colors though perhaps faded, are still faithful to the artist’s intent. A good part of such a poster may be missing, including some crucial image area: colors and lines so marred that a real appreciation of the artist’s intent is difficult, if not impossible. What is Linen Backing. Linen Backing is a way of conservation that is employed with vintage posters to display or frame them without diminishing their value. Linen backing and restoration revitalize damaged posters and keep them from incurring additional damage. A linen backing allows the poster to lie smooth and flat so that it is a simple matter to handle it, frame it, or store it. The reason our items arrive safe and sound is due to proper packaging.
