Meiji silver, such as this was often crafted by former Samurai. Outlawed by the Meiji Emperor, the Samurai warriors channeled their legendary sword making skills into crafting fine silver wares. To this day, Meiji silver is considered, without question, the finest ever produced. Each pieces signed under base in Japanese characters. This late Meiji Japanese sterling Iris along gentle Stream teapot is 8 1/2 inches tall. And the set weighs 43 standard ounces. In very fine condition. Interior of teapot clean as if little used. Cover closes flush, stands firm on table or shelf. Top creamer handle show solder. Handle retains original stops.
