For sale here is a lovely vintage inkwell desk organizer and blotter by Erhard & Sohne (Erhard and Sons) of Germany. Made of pierced brass with inlaid hardwood, this organizer is a beautiful example of the exquisitely detailed craftsmanship of this company. Erhard & Sohne received a patent on their inlay process in 1904, likely dating this piece to the late 1890’s or early 1900’s. Measuring about 11.5″ x 7″ and 3.75 deep, the organizer features an extensively pierced brass frame, typical of their work, and stands on four decorated square brass feet. The inkwell (glass liner is missing) sits atop the center console designed to hold five pens laid across brass rails that run in front of the inkwell. Additionally, two curved-sided compartments to either side of the center console are probably designed to hold stationery. What fun it would be to have your own personalized stationery printed up to put this holder to use again! The companion blotter has a solid brass handle framed by an inlaid boxed design that matches the feet on the inkwell, as well as a smaller pierced design along the outer border of the blotter. Condition: Both pieces are in very good vintage condition, with no signs of damage and no repairs or attempts to clean or refinish. The metal has an original unpolished patina with some staining or yellowing to the varnish. The wood has an open grain common to 100 year old wood. Carefully packaged for safe arrival.
