Four of the volumes were published by Macmillan. Two titles were published by Kegan Paul etc, and one by “National Society’s Depository” (this last title is undated). All the bindings have the same design, even if the sizes vary. Light foxing to the bookplates, the verso of the free endpapers and to the flyleaves. The “3/4 leather” fine Hatchards bindings are all in excellent condition. Perhaps another term for the design of these bindings might be Arts & Crafts? The binder’s miniature ink-stamp “signature” on the upper edge of the verso of the front free endpaper of each volume reads “Hatchards 187 Piccadilly”. No writing or written marks found. Each volume has the bookplate of the Earl Cawdor on the front pastedown endpaper. “The Pleasures of Life” volume is in two parts bound together. Please examine photos closely if interested, and feel free to ask a question. Thanks for your interest. This item is in the category “Books & Magazines\Antiquarian & Collectible”.
