1920’s Victor Durand, Set 4 Art Nouveau Champagne Stems, Hand Blown, Ruby #411. Research has indicated that they are attributed to Victor Durand of Vineland Flint Glass Works in Vineland, New Jersey, USA dating to the 1920’s and influenced by the Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company of which Martin Bach worked for L. Tiffany in Baccarat France along with Mr. These wonderful Art Nouveau Champagne Glasses are Referenced in the book “Durand and His Glass” by Edward Meschi and are identified as Item No. The stunning stems are considered a Ruby Red Optic, (Note: Three of the four glasses have an amethyst tone and one has a cranberry tone). So deviations of the colour are present in both the bowls and bases. They boast a ruffled rim which has an applied thin ribbon of white opal on a lovely swirl bowl. The stems which contain some uranium content as evidenced by the “glow” under blacklight, are considered to be the “Spanish Yellow” an oil glass or ambergris referred to by the company workers. The stems are also ribbed. In 1924 Bach convinced other Quezal employees to join the Durand Art Glass Shop and thus the key group was known as the “Fancy Shop”, Percy & Harry Britton, Wm. Weidebine, & Emil Larson. Suspect they may have been involved in the production of these, however, not conclusive. Much of the Durand Production was not signed. Victor Durand unfortunately died after an unfortunate auto accident in 1931 and thus due to a pending merger it became Kimble Glass Co.
