Antique Art Nouveau French Bronze/Brass Desk Top Ink Well Set c. Presented is a beautiful and stylish desktop writing set with two ink wells and a pen tray designed in a distinctive Art Nouveau style. It came to me from Germany and it looks like a German version of Art Nouveau called Jugenstil. It is more simplistic than French or Belgian versions of the Art Nouveau style with whiplash motives and dynamic flowing lines that are more subtle. It is made of bronze or brass – it is hard to tell since the golden color is more in line with brass, but the tray is cast, not pressed and the brass was not usually used for casting. Could be the gold color bronze. The inkwell has a brass removable insert. The set is in excellent condition – there are some very minor age-related scratches and wear but there is no damage or repairs whatsoever. The size is 10″ by 7″ by 2.5, quite heavy.
