Trifari Art Nouveau Style Demi with S Scrolls, 1950s Alfred Philippe
“S” scrolls mark the “beauty spots” in this pretty Art Nouveau-style demi by Trifari. Our choker necklace and earrings set showcases baguette and oval glass crystals in gracefully curved scroll patterns; against shiny silver tone (probably rhodium plated) metal. Our demi is from the 1950s, and is a design by Trifari’s most eminent chief designer Alfred Philippe. It is more commonly seen in its all-clear crystal version with goldtone. It is scarcer in silvertone, with colored crystals. Our necklace has aqua oval crystals in graduated crystals. The matching earrings have aqua crystals plus pink and lavender ones as well. Both pieces also have clear baguette and round crystals. For your viewing pleasure, we are also including a picture of the matching brooch to this design, which echoes the color of the earrings. The choker necklace has a large S scroll as the centerpiece of its design. The scroll is lined on one side with a generous row of sparkly aqua blue oval crystals, accented by tiny clear rounds. The silvertone S is inset with clear baguettes. Th large scroll pattern has a smaller curved portion on the opposite side, also with aqua ovals. The rest of the necklace is a slinky snake chain with a short extension chain. The necklace is 16″ long, and is 1 1/4″ along the widest center portion. It has a hook clasp on one end and a silver ball drop on the other end. Each earring has an S shaped scroll running across the center, with a pair of clear baguette crystal insets. On opposite sides of the scroll’s end curls are oval crystals, blue at the top and pink at the bottom. The pink oval crystal has a secondary oval crystal in complementary pale lavender hue. The blue oval’s complement is a smaller clear oval crystal. Around the larger stones are round clear crystals. The earrings are 1″ tall and 3/4″ wide; they are clipbacks. Only the earrings are marked: Trifari on the clip stems. However, the necklace is a 100 percent match. Also, the brooch that we found online is signed and is a 100 percent match. The brooch’s multi-color hues also validate the colors on our earrings; they match those in our earrings 100 percent too. In overall very good to excellent condition, with little visible wear. The crystals are mostly glittery and bright, with just one or two show g some wear. The silvertone metal is shiny and mostly unscuffed. The set looks little used.
